Melbourne East Netball Association (MENA) was established in 1952 and has been providing a range netball competitions and associated programs in the Outer Eastern Suburbs for over 50 years.
Since 1977 the Association has been based at the leafy H.E. Parker Reserve in Heathmont, Melbourne. Our home is the new Maroondah Nets at HE. Parker which includes 4 indoor and 4 outdoor netball courts
Join Our Team: Representative Program - Strength & Conditioning Coach
Primary Purpose of Position:
- Support the physical development of MENA Representative athletes through practical, age-appropriate strength and conditioning activities
- Provide coaches and athletes with tools and knowledge to improve strength, movement, speed, agility and injury prevention
- Complement the work of Representative Coaches and the Director of Coaching by collaborating closely with the broader coaching team
- Encourage positive attitudes towards physical preparation and long-term athlete development.
This role provides support within the Representative Program and does not include responsibility for individual athlete rehabilitation, medical decisions, player selection, or the overall delivery of team training.
Key Responsibilities:
Strength & Conditioning Support
- Develop strength and conditioning approaches appropriate to the age and development of all MENA Representative athletes.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate weekly gym‑based strength and conditioning sessions for the 17s and 19s squads, ensuring the program supports athlete development, performance, and wellbeing.
- Review and enhance the summer S&C program for all MENA Representative age groups and contribute your expertise during the Meet and Greet session.Provide practical exercises and activities that can be incorporated into Representative training sessions.
- Focus on: Strength, speed and agility, movement quality, balance and coordination, conditioning, mobility, injury prevention
- Provide age-appropriate progressions and modifications where required.
- Run one 1-hour strength and conditioning session per age group per term
Player & Coach Education
- Provide athletes with an understanding of the importance of physical preparation for netball.
- Educate players on appropriate warm-up, recovery and preparation practices.
- Provide Representative Coaches with practical exercises and resources they can use during team training.
- Promote safe and positive approaches to strength and conditioning.
Program Support
- Deliver agreed group-based strength and conditioning sessions or workshops during the Representative Program seasons.
- Assist with injury management questions from teams, within agreed scope of practice.
- Attend at least one optional summer pre‑season session and lead strength and conditioning across all age groups.
- Develop and deliver programs that enhance the MENA player gift experience, including a brief introductory session at the start of the 2027 season
- Support selected Representative training sessions, where agreed.
- Assist with preparation for tournaments or key competitions, where required.
- Provide feedback to the Director of Coaching on the general physical development needs of the program.
Collaboration
- Work with the Director of Coaching to ensure S&C activities complement the overall Representative Program.
- Work cooperatively with Representative Coaches.
- Refer individual injury or medical concerns to the appropriate qualified health professional – this role is not designed to provide diagnosis or rehabilitation advice.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Demonstrated understanding of age-appropriate physical development for junior athletes.

Qualifications Desirable
- Qualification or study in Exercise Science, Sports Science, Strength & Conditioning or a related field.
- ASCA accreditation or equivalent.
- Experience working with junior athletes.
- Experience in netball or another court-based sport.
- Current First Aid/CPR.

Join Our Team: Representative Program Umpire Coordinator
Primary Purpose of Position:
- Provide strategic direction and guidance into recruitment and retention of umpires within the MENA Representative Umpire Program
- Provide clear guidance and supportive mentoring to the umpire group
- Enhance and strengthen the education and professional development of umpires
- Engage and work collaboratively with the MENA Umpire Convenor.
Key Responsibilities:
Umpire Appointments & Resourcing
- Coordinate and appoint umpires for:
- Representative Trials
- Representative Tournaments (including Mildura and other endorsed events)
- Work collaboratively with the MENA Umpire Convenor to recommend and confirm suitable appointments
- Organise umpire allocations and maintain accurate records
- Ensure consistent and adequate umpire coverage across all teams and scheduled events
- Balance development opportunities with performance expectations when allocating appointments, taking into consideration the competitive level of teams entered in scheduled tournaments.
Umpire Pathway Growth & Retention
- Actively identify, engage, and retain umpires as committed participants within the umpire program
- Conduct mid-year meetings with umpires and report outcomes to the Board, via the Board Umpire portfolio representative
- Develop and implement strategies to retain umpires in the program
- Foster the growth and progression of umpires, in collaboration with the MENA umpire convenor
- Foster a positive, well-supported environment that encourages sustained umpire involvement and ongoing development
- Strengthen transition points between club and representative umpiring in collaboration with the MENA umpire coordinator
Umpire Development & Squad Program
- Establish and oversee a Representative Umpire Program
- Distribute timely and relevant information to umpires regarding courses, seminars, and umpiring opportunities, in accordance with MENA umpire education program
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Attend and contribute to Representative program meetings, as required
- Work collaboratively with:
- Board Member – Umpire Portfolio
- MENA Umpire Convenor
- Club Umpire Coordinators
- Representative Coaches and Team Managers
- Operations Manager
- Bookkeeper
- Operations Administrator
- Contribute to planning and continuous improvement of umpiring within the Program
- Attend MENA umpire education sessions as required
- Liaise with Netball Victoria as required
Communication & Engagement
- Maintain clear and timely communication with umpires regarding:
- Rosters
- Expectations
- Feedback and development opportunities
- Coordinate and contribute to social media content promoting representative umpires, achievements, and pathways
- Promote umpiring as a valued and visible component of the Representative Program
- Develop and implement a reward and recognition program for the umpire Program
Administration & Reporting
- Develop and implement an annual EOI process for all MENA badged and training program umpires to support recruitment and secure suitably qualified umpires for the MENA Representative Umpire Program
- Maintain records of umpire appointments, availability, and development progress
- Work with the MENA Umpire Convenor to maintain records of umpiring services and accreditation
- Liaise with the Head Coach of the MENA Representative Program to ensure calendar dates are shared with umpires at least 3 months in advance of scheduled events and tournaments
- Appoint umpires to tournaments at least 1 month in advance
- Liaise with the MENA Bookkeeper and Operations Manager in formulating an annual budget for the Program, including anticipated costs for umpire accreditations, umpire development and game payments
- Ensure umpires submit time sheets post tournaments and scheduled events in a timely manner, and liaise with the MENA Bookkeeper to ensure any updates to payments required are actioned timely
- Provide regular updates and reports to the MENA Operations Manager, Representative Sub Committee, and MENA Board
- Contribute to end-of-season reviews and planning

- Demonstrated experience in umpiring and/or umpire development
- Demonstrated and relevant coaching/mentoring experience at association level, and a proven ability to work within a team environment
- Strong understanding of the Rules of Netball 2024 and the Netball Australia Development Framework
