We kicked off the 2020 Autumn season with the biggest number of teams playing at our association and Rep program:
• Over 200 teams in NSG U9, U11, U13, U15, U17, Open, and All Abilities playing across Friday and Saturday during our club competition.
• Wednesday Night Ladies Social Competition teams playing and enjoying their competitive netball indoors.
• Players increasing their skills and fitness with our Netball Academy led by Nardelli Coaching.
• Junior Boys Netball teams kicked off another term of competition on a Monday after school.
• Walking Netball teams playing games indoors on Monday evening.
• Our Walking Netball casual sessions continuing to celebrate netball, fun, and fitness during our Monday sessions.
• Our Rep program going from strength to strength led by our new Head Coach Lindy. Our team of 17 Rep Coaches leading over 150 players across the U11 Development Squad, 4 U13 teams, 4 U15 teams, 2 U17 teams, and Open team. We welcomed the introduction of our Emerging Talent Squad led by Nardelli Coaching.
Then COVID hit!!!!
• We learned to Zoom (and boy did we learn fast!)
• We started hitting some goals and took our online game up a notch with our online presence producing over 40 videos and running the first Facebook Live. Our socials (Facebook & Instagram) and web site became the home to many innovative ideas. These include Mindful Mondays, Netball Skill videos, Friday Funnies, and Challenge videos. We also reminisced and shared some of our golden memories from years gone by.
• Our Rep coaching team launched Zoom Netball training alongside team development sessions on Zoom.
• With support from Netball Victoria free NETFIT Netball online sessions became a daily event and along with training support available free from thenetballcoach.com
In June it looked like we were going to be able to come back to the courts – teams were to the ready, fixtures to the ready, new procedures written, and the team ready to support our players back to the court. Our Rep teams made a brief return to training on the court after a monumental effort to be COVID safe.
Lockdown Number 2 came upon us.
• Back to zoom and the socials we go!!!!!!!!!
• With the support of Eastland we ran Melb East Netball Photo Challenge. Where we had over 120 creative entries, hundreds of votes and 40 winners receiving Eastland Gift packs.
• In the true style of #HereIfYouNeed our clubs continue to run online challenges and zoom training. NETFIT Netball continued to run daily training sessions online.
• Rep teams were supported by Coaches with Zoom Netball training and team sessions. Featuring a 6-week stint of the MENA NETFIT Netball ISO Academy where Sarah Wall and guest presenters worked with all ages group, set weekly challenges, and enlightened the players with some wellbeing exercises.
• We ran a 2-week NETFIT Netball MENA Rep Ready Academy on zoom as new players prepare to be ‘Rep Ready’ for 2021 trials.
• We welcomed all our players to join our new Netball Academy Zoom Sessions led by Nardelli Coaching
Rise out of lockdown #2
• Fun Netball Festival launched with 159 Junior teams playing 5 weeks of glorious netball. 12 Open teams joining us for 4 games across 2 weeks. Our shiny new Bendigo Bank game balls made their debut on court.
• Together our generous local netball community raised just a fraction under $1500 to support the You Are My Sunshine foundation. To help us beat the number one toddler cancer inspired by Lachlan’s cancer journey
• We ran 2021 Rep Squad trials with a team of enthusiastic volunteers and eager players. Running Screening Session for new players for the very first time.
And most importantly we’ve helped our players and our local netball community move, learn and grow in 2020! We all demonstrated the “Here If You Need” ethos that runs so strongly through our netball community.
You are incredible and we can’t wait to tackle 2021 with you.
