Our Association is committed to fostering an inclusive environment that welcomes and supports participation from all members of our community. We are dedicated to providing meaningful and accessible opportunities for male netballers to engage in the sport in various capacities — as players, umpires, coaches, and leaders. By actively creating pathways and visibility for boys and men in netball, we aim to strengthen the development of the game, enhance representation across all levels, and help raise the profile of male netball at the grassroots level. Key Points on Male Participation:
- Mixed competitions up to and including the 13&U age group (Saturday Club Competition 9&U Mixed, 11&U Mixed, 13&U Mixed): There is no restrictions applied on the basis of gender. The Netball VIC Gender Regulation states that there can be no restrictions on gender for mixed competition at the 13&U, 11&U and younger age groups. This means there are no restrictions (or capping) on the number of males on a team or playing on the court.
- Eligibility by Age Males aged 13/U as of the first day of the competition or season may participate in U15 female competitions. This aligns with the Netball VIC Gender Regulations.
- There is no restriction on the number of males below 13 who may play in a U15 female competition if they meet the age requirement. This is set by Netball VIC’s guidelines.
- Males who are 13 years of age (and older) are not permitted to participate in a female competition. To avoid any doubt:
- a. males must be less than 13 years of age (actual age) as at the first day of the competition or season; and
- b. males that turn 13 during that competition or season will be permitted to participate for the duration of that competition or season.
Mixed Restrictions – 15 & Under Club Competition
- Teams may have a maximum of two male players on the court at one time.
- If there is more than one boy on court at any one time, they must play in separate thirds of the court – (GK/GD – WD/C/WA – GA/GS).
Gender Regulations Compliance
MENA and all affiliated clubs must comply with Netball VIC’s Gender Regulation policy. Associations, clubs, and leagues are not permitted to enforce by-laws that conflict with Netball VIC’s guidelines.
