How do I sign up to play with a club?
I’d like to know more information about Rep Trials
Our trials are usually held in the first few weeks of October. Registrations usually open int September. Click here to view more information about our Rep program
We offer players the opportunity to play a more advanced level of netball than the club level through representative (rep) teams. Entry into rep teams is by tryouts announced on our website and social media channels. We develop players’ skills on representative teams made up of players from many of the clubs who participate in our Club Competition.
How do I start Umpiring?
During the club competition, the club rosters an umpire to officiate the game. When you play usually there is an umpire from your club and one from the club you are playing against. Unless a club has organised a fill-in umpire. Umpires are pooled in the Open sections which means Umpires can come from any of the clubs. Read more about umpiring and how to become an umpire.

How do I fill in for a team?
Players with Netball Victoria Membership (NVM) but not a member MENA competition:
– Will need to be provided with a competition registration link by the club they are filling in with
Players with Netball Victoria Membership, and a member of a MENA club:
– Can only fill in for teams within their own club. The team a player is filling in for must be in a higher division in the same age group, or in a higher age group.
– MAXIMUM of 4 games can be played as a fill-in for a team; if a fifth game is played with a higher division team in the same age group, a player will no longer be able to return to their original team.
Players without Netball Victoria Membership:
Clubs will need to provide players with their club registration link so the fill in player can purchase a Single Game Voucher. The process is the same as for regular registration, with the option of ‘One Game Only’ to be checked for a single game voucher.
**Exceptions – Independent teams will provide their fill in players with the link they used to register AND need to email player details to programs@menanetball.com.au to have the player added to the team.
**Adding fill-in, borrowed, single game voucher players to the team for attendance:
Once the player has registered to the competition, you will be able to find them to add to your team via the teams module, or however you would normally borrow players.
** Please also note: all fill-in players must be eligible to play within the specified age group within the MENA By-Laws **
Are games still played in rain or hot weather?
Please see our Adverse Weather Policy
Is there lost property?
Yes. Maroondah Council keep all lost property at the courts for one season before disposing of it or donating it to charity. You can access the lost property during when Maroondah Nets is open.
I am having trouble with Netball Connect
Everybody does at some point, don’t worry!
Team managers, parents and others:
- Your first point of contact is with your Club administrators (if you are a team member, manager etc requiring assistance). They should be able to guide and advise you on what you may need to do.
Administrators can:
- Visit Netball Victoria’s website and the Netball Connect help page for further assistance – https://vic.netball.com.au/netball-connect
Attend a Netball Victoria Netball Connect Drop in session for further training, discussion and assistance. These are currently being held around twice a month via zoom. Visit the below link for more details:
If administrators are having issues within the Netball Connect system (browser), and have tried the above, they can contact the Association at the Admin email for assistance. If we are unable to help, we will advise you to lodge a ticket with Netball Connect for support and to report an ongoing issue that seems unsolvable.
Is there First Aid available?
Maroondah City Council provide a first aid at Maroondah Nets. They can assess injuries courtside or access the first aid room if needed and administer ice, first aid or call an ambulance if required.
If first aid is required, please notify the Maroondah Council Duty Manager (staff wear grey polo with green trim) who can be located at the front desk at Reception. If the staff member isn’t at the front desk use the phone and ring the Duty Manager mobile 0438 616 774 for assistance, this number is also printed on the phone.
It is important that only one person notify court staff of the need for assistance, as multiple reports from multiple people to different staff may result in a delay in treatment due to confusion over where the injury is and how many people are injured.
Ice can be obtained from the front desk at Reception via the Duty Manager who will assess whether additional follow up or first aid treatment is required.
For injuries deemed by coaches and/or guardians to not require first aid assistance:
* Band-Aids – should be carried in a first aid kit by ALL coaches. Any requests for band aids made to Competition office staff will be redirected back to coaches.
If a coach/team does not have access to band aids, they will be able to purchase a box for a small price from the Cafe.
What are the Netball Concussion guidelines?
Concussion guidelines have been released for community sport Below is a link to view the recording of the session. The important documents from the AIS and Netball Australia as well, all of which are available online at: https://vic.netball.com.au/concussion-policy.
There is also a free online learning course that is recommended for anyone who is involved with community sport to do – https://www.connectivity.org.au/courses/sport-related-concussion-course/

Do you have nail clippers I can borrow?
No, we do not have nail clippers available to borrow.
Due to a number of clippers not being returned and the need for us to disinfect clippers each time they are borrowed (health and safety), we no longer have clippers available.
Nail clippers, along with bandaids, should be carried by all coaches in their kit bags.
Players should remember to cut their nails prior to game day.
In the event that there are no clippers or scissors available, a set of clippers (and a box of bandaids) may be purchased from the Cafe.
Do you have earring tape?
No. The Competition office does not provide tape for piercings.
Appropriate tape should be carried by coaches (along with bandaids and nail clippers), or players should have piercings taped prior to arrival at the courts.
If you or your coach do not have tape available, you can purchase a roll of appropriate tape from the cafe.
** Please note – bandaids and paper tape ARE NOT accepted as coverings for piercings as they come off easily, particularly when a player is sweaty or wet.
What if a player gets injured during Game Day?
The umpire will stop play for injury/illness upon appeal from an on-court player or for blood and may hold time for an emergency or such other circumstances as they consider appropriate. During a stoppage for injury/illness of a player or blood, all players not affected or being substituted should remain on the court. In an emergency or other circumstances, the umpires decide whether the players leave the court or not. In extreme circumstances and in consultation with the competition staff, the umpires may decide to abandon a match if the safety of players and/or officials is considered to be at risk.
Go to the Maroondah Council Duty Manager who is located at the desk next to the café. They will have ice and access to the first aid room if this is required and they will call an ambulance if required.
Note the details of the injury on the back of the scoresheet.
Please head to Netball Victoria Insurance information and select to make a claim (personal). You will find all the information you need about making a claim on this site.
Do we play if it’s raining? Cold? Hot?
All teams and players MUST report to the venue no matter what the weather conditions. MENA will decide if the play is to be canceled due to inclement weather. Rain, cold weather, and heat does not necessarily stop play. For further read the Adverse Weather policy
What is the code of behaviour for anyone on the sidelines and players?
Read the Codes of behavior, Fair Play & Child Safety information.
How does the grading of teams work?
There are several “sections” for each age group with Section 1 being the highest. The Clubs enters teams into a section based on their knowledge of the players’ abilities and standard of play. MENA may re-grade these teams in the first couple of weeks of the season starting, depending on their performance to ensure a more even standard of competition between teams. See the grading policy
Can players fill in for other teams?
A player must play a minimum of 4 games each season to qualify to play in any finals that season. Players can play 3 games in a higher age/section or ranked side, however, once they have played 4 games they will be regarded as a member of the higher-ranked team for the remainder of that netball season.
My team needs to forfeit. Who do I contact?
In the case of a team forfeiting, the club or team forfeiting must as soon as possible contact MENA (admin@menanetball.com.au) and the opposing club and receive an acknowledgment. The opposing team may submit a score sheet in order to qualify players. The result of the match is 10 goals to nil in favour of the opposing team. In the event that both teams forfeit, the result is nil-nil with neither team receiving any premiership points. For more information about forfeits read the By-Laws & Competition Rules.
Club Competition
When and where are the netball games played?
Under 9 NetSetGo teams play Friday. 13 & Under, 15 & Under, 17 & Under & Open teams play Saturday. The Club Competition is played on indoor and outdoor courts at Maroondah H.E. Parker Reserve, 154 Heathmont Rd, Heathmont.
When does the Club Competition Netball season run?
The year is divided into 2 playing seasons – Autumn (Feb to June) and Spring (July to Nov). Usually, no games are played on public or school holidays.
9 & Under NetSetGo teams do not play finals. Instead, they play a Round Robin at the end of each season. 11 & Under teams and older play finals if they finish in the top 4 positions.
What times are the games?
9 & Under games usually start at 4.25pm, 5.10pm or 5.55pm Fridays. Sections are rotated so teams don’t always play at the same time.
11 & Under and older sections start at 8 am Saturdays followed by each age group in turn.
Each game takes about 50 minutes.
